A Hilo man is charged with eight offenses after trying to return some items that were purchased with a stolen credit card.
On April 1, a purse belonging to a 26-year-old Hilo woman was stolen from a vehicle parked in downtown Hilo. The woman’s credit card was used twice the next day at a store in Hilo. Each transaction exceeded $1,000.
Last week, 25-year-old Chad Wright of Hilo tried to return $900 worth of the items purchased April 2, police said, and an investigation revealed he was the same person who bought them.
Wright was arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock. Detectives charged him April 7 with two counts each of fraud, ID theft, forgery and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $19,000.
His initial court appearance is set for today.
